Habitat for Humanity

SCC teams participate in local Habitat for Humanity projects. We assume the costs of basic tools and/or equipment. Habitat for Humanity provides affordable housing to qualified individuals through a combination of volunteer labor and no-interest mortgages. More on Habitat for Humanity can be found at: www.habitat.org.

The Fight Against MS

Every week, 200 people are diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a chronic, often disabling disease that randomly attacks the central nervous system. Though MS cannot currently be cured, research is ongoing to find effective means of preventing and arresting the disease.
For the past three years, SCC has fielded teams to support the annual MS Bike to the Bay. We ride 150 miles in support of fund raising efforts, and have been in the top 20 firms in contributing to the National MS Society.

American Cancer Society: "Life Guarding Against Cancer."

In 2003, SCC sponsored a team of employees, family members and friends to participate in the "Relay for Life" event in Wilmington, DE. The fundraiser is an overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs for the American Cancer Society. In 2003, it was hoped that total contributions from these events will eclipse $1 billion.

Juvenile Diabetes

Dr. William "Max" Maxwell, a lead mentor and developer at SCC, has been active in helping those with diabetes for many years. Max leads SCC's efforts to raise funds for a cure.

When his granddaughter, Leah, was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of ten, he became a strong supporter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). To ensure that his support continues, Max has designated JDRF as beneficiary to a portion of his personal IRA, joining the ranks of JDRF's Beta Society, which honors donors of planned gifts.

"It just seemed the right thing to do," Max humbly responded as he was honored. "I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to plan for my family and their needs."
