Joint procurement contracts from US counties divided by thousands of miles is the new way in which cheaper purchases are being made. Counties are joining up with other counties in other states to purchase similar items saving thousands of dollars. Using a database called SmartProcure, 2,200 cities, states, counties, school districts and federal agencies are benefiting from shared purchasing data.
SmartProcure launched an online information service providing access to local, state, and federal government procurement data. This enables government agencies and others to make more efficient procurement decisions and save taxpayer dollars. Government agencies that contribute data to the system are able to access the solution for free, while government suppliers can use the system to identify which agencies are interested in certain products and services, as well as being to access pricing and sales information about their competitors.
